I can’t believe it’s March already. With spring finally showing signs of coming, John is busy in the vineyard pruning and I’ve been busy in the tasting room now that we are open every weekend. But we always find time to cook together and create some delicious meals paired with our family wine. Here are some of my favorite recipes that pair exceptionally well with our 2013 Blessings Estate grown Peite Sirah, and there are so many to choose from.
Our number one family favorite is Beef Tenderloin served on a bed of caramelized onions (John sometimes throws in a little PS to help the caramelization) and topped with blue cheese. The sweetness of the onions and the creaminess of the blue cheese are a great balance to the wine.
Just last night some friends made us a gooey, cheesy, delicious lasagna that would have been perfect with Blessings. Lots of melted cheese (no ricotta in this lasagna) along with rich beef and a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. I can’t wait to reproduce it and try it with Blessings. For a vegetarian take – a rich eggplant parmesan would also pair very well.
I’m always looking for interesting, non-traditional pairings with our wines. This year, I’m going to try a chicken mole. The chocolate and cinnamon should be a great compliment to Blessings. I found a slow-cooker recipe that I think will both taste great and really compliment the wine. I’ll let you know how it comes out! For those of you that have a tried and true mole – send it to me or share on our Facebook page, I’d love to try yours as well.
There are many great meals that can be created by starting with the perfect wine, just try some of the suggested flavor profiles and let your imagination do the rest!
